The muggies are here! You don’t need me to tell you that. You’ve already been outside today. Woof! I know some of you like this weather though so I’m happy for you.
There’s a line of showers with embedded rumbles of thunder moving through Central PA early this afternoon. It’ll arrive in places like Towanda, Laporte, and Bloomsburg ~3PM. For Montrose, Scranton, and Jim Thorpe – expect rain around 5PM with embedded rumbles of thunder. I’m not really seeing a significant severe weather risk today.
The risk for severe storms increases Thursday. However – it’s a conditional risk. I know I know – that sounds like a weather guy trying to cover his 
. Lemme explain.
Overnight, there’s a complex of storms that will attempt to make it here and through Northeast PA. I suspect that’s going to leave behind a lot of cloud cover. If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know what I say. “More sunshine – more storm potential”. Hard to say just how much sun we’ll see, but if we do, look out below.
We’ll have all sorts of thunderstorm fuel to work with on Thursday *if* we break out into some sunshine. Temperatures will be around 90 and it’ll be real humid. An upper level disturbance moves through this soupy air between 4-8PM. Clusters of thunderstorms are likely with a few of them containing damaging wind gusts and perhaps some hail.
Friday is another hot and humid one with afternoon/evening thunderstorm potential. The timing looks a little slower with the arrival of a cold front. A slower front would help mitigate the severe risk since the storms would occur after dark. I’m opening the bid for storms to between 6-10PM on Friday but will adjust timing as we get closer.
Much like Thursday, Friday’s storms would have the capacity to produce damaging wind gusts and hail. Not all of them, but some of them. I’ll keep ya posted!
